Legendary American singer-songwriter Don McLean, long associated with the pop anthem “American Pie” will perform live at the Cactus Theater on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. McLean’s other notable hits include “Vincent (Starry Starry Night)”, “Castles In the Air”, “And I Love You So” and cover versions of Roy Orbison’s classic “Crying” and Buddy Holly’s “Everyday”.
McLean, who released the classic “American Pie” in 1971, was honored 30 years later when the song was was voted number 5 in a poll of the 365 “Songs of the Century” compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts. The top five were: “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland; “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby; “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie; “Respect” by Aretha Franklin; and “American Pie” by Don McLean.
Don McLean's current release "Botanical Gardens" was released in April of this year.
