Following the popularity of the inaugural full season of fall film screenings last year, the historic Cactus Theater is offering its Classic Cinema 2024 series Sept 11 through December 18 - with 2 films offered each month.  The film screenings may be purchased individually at a later date or included in this special FALL 2024 SERIES PASS which includes two (2) BONUS screenings in the package!  

Also included with each screening:  Vintage shorts - which may include historic newsreels, cartoons, or other special segments - as part of the classic cinema experience.

Individual film screenings are $7 per ticket - however, this series pass allows filmgoers to see TWO bonus screenings at no additional cost...for an average cost of only $5.25 per film if all films in the series are seen!

Each film will be offered as a 2:20 pm matinee and 7:20 pm evening screening to allow added flexibility for your schedule.

The Fall 2024 classic cinema film series includes these titles and their respective dates, year of release and notable info:

Sept 11....Giant (1956) Un-rated. American epic Western drama film directed by George Stevens and set in West Texas.  Starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. The last of Dean's three films as a leading actor, earning him his second and last Academy Award nomination.

Sept 25....The Wild One (1953) Un-rated. American crime film most noted for the character of Johnny Strabler, portrayed by Marlon Brando - who would have turned 100 this year - whose persona became a cultural icon of the 1950s.

Oct 16....The Birds (1963) Un-rated.  American natural horror-thriller film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren in her screen debut.

Oct 30....Frankenstein (1931) Un-rated. Starring Colin Clive, Dwight Frye and Boris Karloff.  The classic Universal film directed by James Whale...just in time for Halloween.

Nov 13...Saving Private Ryan (1998) Rated R.  Starring Tom Hanks, Edward Burns and Tom Sizemore.  In observance of Veterans Day, we are screening this American epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg.

Nov 20...Batman (1989) Rated PG-13.  Starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger.  The blockbuster that started the modern day superhero franchise and is still considered the best of the Batman films by many.

Dec 4...White Christmas (1954) Un-rated.  Stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney.  Inspired by the classic song which appeared previously in the film "Holiday Inn" (which we showed last year).

Dec 18...It's a Wonderful Life (1947) Un-rated. Considered one of the greatest film of all time - seasonal or otherwise - this classic was directed by legendary filmmaker Frank Capra and stars James Stewart, Donna Reed and Henry Travers.
