Lubbock Guitarslingers Annual Show 2026 - Live at Cactus Theater!

 Lubbock has always been a guitar town. From the halcyon days of the 1970s, when Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jesse Taylor, and BB King would jam at Stubb’s Barbeque on East Broadway; where Tom T. Hall and Joe Ely played pool with broomsticks and an onion; when everyone from Terry Allen to Jimmie Dale Gilmore to George Thorogood and Muddy Waters knew to head there for the Sunday night jams - Lubbock has been a guitar town. Going back earlier, too: in the 1960s and the legendary Maines Brothers Band, who later spun off players like the ubiquitous genius player and producer Lloyd Maines, and a little group called The Chicks. Earlier still, in the 1950s, when Buddy Holly and Sonny Curtis re-defined both the electric guitar and created the blueprint for what a rock band would look like going forward from that moment - we’ve been a Guitar Town.

Since October of 2018, the Lubbock Guitarslingers Concert has become the signature guitar-related event in our region, recognizing the incredible breadth and depth of the guitar heritage of Lubbock and the region and foregrounding the best examples of that heritage in the best venues in the area. 

Join us for this year’s 9th Annual concert featuring: West Texas Classical Guitar Quartet, Scott Faris, Joy Harris & Friends, Leon Carrasco, Avelar Hernandez and Ghostlux.

The West Texas Guitar Quartet is a dynamic guitar ensemble known for its rich tonal palate and imaginative programming. Bringing together diverse musical backgrounds, WTGQ presents a vibrant and engaging exchange on stage, creating a powerful collective synergy. The quartet’s unique sound is shaped by its four distinct members: Will Herrington, currently completing his BM in Classical Guitar Performance at Texas Tech; Heidi Jensen, Assistant Professor of Musicology at Texas Tech; Toby McWilliams Instructor of Guitar at Lubbock Christian University, and Jason Mullen, Lecturer of Guitar at Texas Tech.

Joy Harris and Levitt’s Corner - Joy Harris is a versatile musician. A Lubbock native since age five, her primary objectives are to learn/play as much as possible, and have fun doing it! Her musical journey has introduced her to piano, percussion, different choral styles, and bass.  She is a graduate of Frenship, and studied percussion performance at Texas Tech.   She has had the great pleasure of working with many different bands, churches, schools, theaters, orchestras, dance and music studios, etc.  Joy began studying piano at age four.  Her first musical responsibility was as musician for Macedonia Baptist in Smyer, and has not slowed down since. Presently, Joy is primarily based out of Lubbock and tours. She is also working with different recording studios and artists. Her mission is to see as much of the world as possible through a musician's eyes.  Music is life!!

Growing up in Lamesa, Avelar Hernandez has been playing music ever since he can remember. He was captivated by the guitar at a young age, and in high school formed a band under the name Wander with his good friends Aiden Campos on drums and Donovan Moreno on bass. They recorded a small Ep and started exploring the local music scene in Lubbock and building a small fan base, the main goal for us was just to keep the Blues alive by showing our love for playing those songs.

Ghostlux is Rebekah Ramos - Vocals and Guitar; Leah Santa – Guitar; Adrian Ballejo - Drum Kit; Delaney Estrada - Bass guitar. Ghostlux is a four-piece rock band that combines alternative indie, pop punk with hints of grunge for a nostalgic feel. Drawing inspiration from the band’s various influences, Ghostlux combines several genres into one cohesive sound.

Leon Carrasco & Twice as Nice, featuring Adrian Revilla on bass and Victor Ochoa on drums. Proudly representing West Texas, blending the soulful roots of blues, country, rock, funk, and Latin. Spanning three generations, each member brings their own flavor, exciting energy and Tex-Mex spirit that honors their tejano and Chicano heritage. These wildcats deliver a powerful, fun, and crowd-engaging show packed with original songs and fun covers. Catch a young Leon Carrasco, lighting up stages with soulful vocals and guitar, electrifying energy, and a passion he has held since childhood. From Midland Texas, alongside Twice as Nice, ready to bring their sound to wherever the road leads. 

Scott Faris is a guitarist and visual artist who blurs the lines between multiple art forms.  His unique approach spans musical genres, and includes generative video, fine art, and design.  “I believe all art forms come from the same source, whether it’s music, painting, film, literature, or spoken work.  My mission is to create memorable experiences that expand the audiences’ view of what music and art mean.”  Scott is also a gold record producer and the owner of the Amusement Park Studio in Lubbock, Texas.  In addition, he has created album covers, comics and graphic novels for the likes of Flatland Cavalry and Robert Earl Keen.  Scott is debuting his new band, “The Death Cherries,” at this year’s Guitarslingers Concert, featuring a collaborative immersive audio experience with South Plains College Professor of Sound Technology, Matt Quick.
